The Story Behind This Viral Family Photo Will Give You Chills
When a young mother named Sierra Sharry asked photographer Kayli Rene to take a picture of her with her six-month-old son, Taos, she had an odd request. Sharry asked Rene if she could Photoshop her late partner, Lane Smith, into the family photo, and told her the following tragic story.
Smith and Sharry were absolutely elated when they found out in early 2014 they were going to be having a baby.
"I think the thought of having a kid made Lane the happiest person in the world. We were scared as any new parents would be but ready for the adventure together," Sharry wrote in the caption to the photo on Facebook.
In early July, when Sharry was eight months pregnant, the couple went down to El Reno, OK, to go jet boat racing with Smith's family. One day, she decided to go home early because she felt a little overheated. As she said goodbye to Smith that night, she had no idea it would be the last time she ever saw him.
At 2:30 A.M., she got the phone call everyone dreads. Smith had hit his head and was in the emergency room. She and her family rushed to the hospital, but even though Sharry was worried, she was sure everything would be fine. It wasn't until the nurse pulled aside her mother, an RN, that her heart began to sink. When her mother walked back to her in tears, she knew he wasn't going to make it.
"July 13th 2014 was the absolute worst day of my life. I lost my best friend. The father of my unborn child. And since that day I have felt so empty inside. A part of me will forever be missing. I loved that man more than life itself," she wrote.
So when the time came for a family photo, Sharry wanted something that would show that even though Smith was gone forever, his spirit will continue to preside over them eternally.
"This is how I picture us," she wrote.
