The latest John Lewis Christmas advert might not be the tear-jerker everyone was expecting, but the tale of Buster the boxer does share one similarity with the ad campaigns from recent years.

Once again, the retailer's festive commercial has a charitable link. John Lewis is raising money for The Wildlife Trusts, which is referenced in the story of Bridget, who is given a trampoline for Christmas.

The night before Christmas, a group of animals—two foxes, a badger, a squirrel, and a hedgehog—start jumping on a trampoline. Bridget's dog Buster watches the garden wildlife trying her present out, before he gets to discover his love of bouncing, too.

The moral element seen in the previous 'Man on the moon' and 'Monty the penguin' campaigns might not be as evident this year, but John Lewis hopes to send a strong message in support of British wildlife thanks to these adorable characters.

"Each year we work with a charity which fits our ad, and we hope this year's campaign will encourage more children to discover a love of British wildlife and encourage support of the Wildlife Trusts," Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said in a statement.

The Wildlife Trusts will get 10% of sales of cuddly toy versions of the animals seen in the ad, which are already on sale in stores and online. The range of merchandise, including Buster the boxer Christmas tree decorations, pajamas and slippers, starts at £5.

The charity is also hopeful the advert will encourage people to enjoy the natural world around them.

"The Wildlife Trusts believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of wildlife and wild places in their daily lives," Stephanie Hilborne OBE, the Chief Executive of The Wildlife Trusts said in a statement.

"So John Lewis putting some of our most beautiful British wild animals at the centre of their Christmas advert and making The Wildlife Trusts their charity of choice this Christmas is great news.
